There’s always a downside to an upside and vice versa. While the idea of studying abroad is great, there are some drawbacks to it as well. We’re not saying that these drawbacks should hold you back, but it is a rule of the universe that there is always another side of any picture as well.

This article will help you set realistic expectations and prepare accordingly.

  1. Pro: Travelling experience

Travelling and sightseeing in a whole new country have its own charm. In between classes and assignments, you will have many opportunities to travel within or outside the city you’re studying in. This way, you don’t only get to experience a rich new culture but you also get to make the most of your time abroad.

  1. Con: Being all on your own

While being independent for the very first time is an incredible feeling, being on your own in a new country can be lonely. Sometime, even the basic necessities back home will feel like a luxury because your place may or may not have a dryer, washing machine or a cupboard.

  1. Pro: Meeting new people

Making connections is important in order to survive in a new place. The locals can be a little cold towards a foreigner at the beginning, but if you visit a shop or a café multiple times, you will become familiar to the people there and eventually, will receive a warm welcome.

  1. Con: Being broke almost every time

Being a student means you’ll be mostly occupied with studies and maybe a part-time job. Since studying abroad is expensive for an international student, you’ll be more focused towards paying off your student loans. Even though there are going to be many traveling opportunities in your city, some of them could be expensive.

  1. Pro: Coming back

Even though being in a different country is fun and all, there will be times when you’ll feel homesick. Maybe miss your family or friends a bit too much. Either way, coming back home is the most exciting part after so many years of being away from it.

So here are some pros and cons of studying abroad that your education consultant back home might not tell you. But experiencing this chapter of life will surely be the most thrilling and memorable one out of all!
